Research Fellows


Catherine Andersen

Catherine Andersen has enjoyed a 30 year career at Gallaudet University where she served as Chief Enrollment and Marketing Officer, Associate Provost, Dean of Enrollment and General Studies, Director of the First-Year Experience and Chairperson of the Communication and Developmental Studies Department.  She has an extensive background in developing curricular and cocurricular initiatives for students, assessment and strategic planning, and a long history of enhancing both academic and student support programs.  She served on the national advisory board for the National Resource Center on the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, and currently serves on the national advisory board for Teagle Assessment Scholars as well as a Fellow with The Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate  Education.

Margery Miller

Margery Miller is currently President  & Consultant with Miller-Rose Enterprises, a higher education, executive, educational, and family consulting firm.  She served as a tenured Professor of Psychology and the Dean of Enrollment Management at Gallaudet University in addition to holding other university administrative positions.  As Director of the Psychology Program and the Coordinator of the Psychology Internship Program for undergraduate students at Gallaudet University, she led assessment and accreditation activities for MSCHE and was involved with accreditation processes with NASP and APA. She is also a licensed psychologist (MD), nationally certified school psychologist (NASP: NCSP), a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology, and holds other national certificates and licenses.  She is a member of the ACT Council of Maryland, Delaware and Washington, DC and also serves as Chair-Elect of the Executive Board.  Dr. Miller received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Georgetown University, Master’s degrees in School Psychology (Towson State University), HIgher Education Administration (State University of NY at Albany), and Speech and Language Pathology and Audiology (NYU).  She received her B.A. from Elmira College (formerly Elmira College for Women).

Carol Trosset

Carol Trosset has worked as a Director of Institutional Research for sixteen years, currently at Hampshire College and before that at Grinnell College. She holds a PhD in cultural anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA from Carleton College. Her most recent publications have discussed the use of assessment data to improve retention, the assessment of undergraduate research experiences, and student and faculty expectations of the advising relationship. Dr. Trosset serves on the Board of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium.

Steven Weisler

Steven Weisler is Dean of Enrollment and Assessment and Professor of Linguistics at Hampshire College, an innovative liberal arts college and member of the Five College Consortium in Amherst, Massachusetts. As dean, Dr. Weisler is responsible for enrollment and assessment. He currently leads a Teagle-funded assessment collaborative evaluating the senior thesis. Dr. Weisler also serves as a Teagle Assessment Scholar at the Wabash Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts and as a member of the selection committee for the New Leadership Alliance for Student Learning and Accountability. He has published and presented papers on qualitative assessment, assessment of the first-year experience, retention, and the evaluation of integrative learning. His interests in linguistics and cognitive science include syntactic theory, formal semantics, and the study of learning.
